ARTSNCT makes donation to Newcomerstown schools
ARTSNCT, Arts Center of Newcomerstown, continues to live up to its reputation of helping its community and to one of its popular catchphrases, “Awesome Things Are Happening,” as Director Michael Wise announced the center recently donated stage lighting to the Newcomerstown High School Thespians and Newcomerstown Middle School.
ARTSNCT’s executive director Michael Wise said the six Halogen spotlights were originally intended for use at the arts center but Wise said he thought the Thespians would get better use out of them. He said a large percentage of the stage lights used at the school are the same lights that were used when he was in high school over 40 years ago.
The Thespians are currently rehearsing the upcoming spring play, “Almost Maine,” by John Cariani. The show, scheduled for April 23, 24, and 25, is being directed by Kaitlan Addy and student director Blade Mitchell. The cast includes Madison Rehard, Ashley Russell, Blair Butler, Kobe Lower, Steven Rader, Nash Bricker and Sam Cool.
Wise said a special “thank you” should go to Joseph Fitch of Newcomerstown for obtaining the lights for the center and to Fenton Brothers Electric of New Philadelphia for rewiring the lights at no charge.
The arts center will feature a special exhibit of student art entitled “Art with Heart” during March. An opening and artist reception will take place Saturday, March 7, 2-4 p.m., at the center.
Also, beginning March 9, ARTSNCT will provide two weekly arts programs at Newcomerstown East Elementary School in conjunction with the school’s after school L.E.A.D. program; the center’s Not Your Average Theatre Group on Mondays and the art group, “IMAGINATION — Outside the Lines” on Tuesdays until the end of the school year.
ARTSNCT is located at 304 S. College St., Newcomerstown. For information, call 740-575-5710 or visit.
