Newcomerstown event to remember 9/11 and COVID victims

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Sept. 11 will be the 20th anniversary of the day in American history that will forever be known as 9/11.
The village of Newcomerstown is proclaiming that Saturday as A Day of Remembrance and Recognition with a community event organized by ARTSNCT, Arts Center of Newcomerstown.
The event will pay tribute to those lost by the events of 9/11, and remember friends, loved ones, and family members lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. with registration for a judged car show in the lots between Bakers IGA and the Yummy Drive-thru. The show is open to any type of vehicle.
Registration fee for the car show is $10 per vehicle. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 registered. Commemorative 9/11 trophies and plaques will be awarded to the top 20 vehicles and the top three motorcycles.

At noon, the Tuscarawas County traveling COVID mural will be unveiled inside ARTSNCT.
Carole Hunt and Lynn Fraelich, the artists who created the memorial, will be present and available to answer questions.
At 1 p.m. Newcomerstown Mayor Pat Cadle will be on stage, near Baker’s IGA, to speak and recognize the first responders in Newcomerstown’s Fire Department, Police Department and Tri-County Joint Ambulance.
Pastor Jim Reed will give the benediction, remembering those who have passed from both events.
The ceremony will conclude with the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute by the Honor Guard of Newcomerstown American Legion, Thomas C. Montgomery Post 431.
Residents are invited to participate by attending the event and paying their respects.
Food will be available from Backwoods Smokehouse BBQ and Catering.
The event will include a DJ, a live radio broadcast and a 50/50 drawing.
All proceeds from the event will benefit children’s programs at ARTSNCT.
ARTSNCT, Arts Center of Newcomerstown, is a veteran-led 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing all forms of visual and performing arts to Newcomerstown and the surrounding tri-county area.
